Comparison
ChartThe following table gathers practically
all the existing multitrack software (July 2008) which have multiple
outputs.
The selected categories represent more one manner of helping to the comparison
of their characteristics than a hierarchical classification. However, it is
certain that the ones in the two first categories are much more interesting
for multichannel creation than the others !…
Note that my appreciations at the end of the chart are relative to the multichannel
possibilities, including the number of channels, not the standard DAW features.

* "montage multicanal" veut dire qu'il est possible d'effectuer
les opérations de montage / traitement / mixage sur des représentations
de fichiers comportant plus de deux channels (ou le simulant, cf Digital Performer)
; il est possible de le faire également with les logiciels qui ne disposent
que de tracks mono / stereo, mais il convient alors de répartir
ces fichiers sur de multiples tracks, ce qui complique particulièrement
la composition.
** c-à-d la possibilité de manipuler les objands de composition (séquences
ou régions
audio, séquences MIDI)
with les paramètres qui contrôlent les masses spatiales comme un tout lors des déplacements,
des opérations de
copier / coller and de traitement, ce qui est encore hélas très
rare...
