The Plugins

les instruments Control of the spatial mass (multichannel sptialization)

Masses | Ambisonic | UpMix

Some of these plugins can replace the "surround" modules in multitrack software that allow to insert multichannel plugin, or provide special functions like automatic movements, or "up-mixing" functions that can be use to recycle "old" stereo recordings ...

 Masses spatiales

AcousModules (myself...) : about 40 plugins devoted to the spatialization from 5 to 32 channels. They are actually the only one that can control all the aspects of the spatial mass, on two or three dimension.
( - VST / AU - freeware and a few sharewares).

Sound Stage (Audio Research Labs) : (TDM, 399 $)

Auto Surround Panner (Kelly Industries) : left/right - front/rear, it is an autopanner...
( - DX - 60 €)

Cyclone (Starplugs) : Cyclone Pan, another autopan in 5.1.
( - VST - 30 €)

AirTraffic Control (Jeversi Software) : it is initually made for mixing but can be used to move the sptial mass of several inputs or channels. It is very intuitive to use, but the automation is not very smooth. ( - VST - 41 €)

Krosipan (IOPlong) : a kind of super panoramic with four inputs to ten outputs. Simple but can be very useful. ( - VST - freeware

5.1 Surround Panning (Neyrinck Audio) : it can give some surround panning in Protools LE/MP by crossing three stereo busses. You will better choose a DAW that has a real surround support...
(- RTAS - 189 $)

S360 Surround Panner (Waves), surround pan in polar coordinates, part of the 360° bundle. Good for static masses.
( - TDM 2000 € / native 1000 €)

ReSpatializer (The Sound Guy) : a very nice plugin in octophony since it can move together its eight inputs to eight outputs. It has 16 presets that correspond to the main standard speakers setups. Attention : the compatibility of the VST version depends on the host.

 Ambisonic

BX2 (Daniel Courville) : all you need to encode, decode and process the signal in ambisonic, in the first or the second order. The plugins are made with Sonicbirth, thus alas only available for Mac. (- VST / AU - freeware)

Digenis : another series of ambisonic plugins.
( - VST / AU - freeware)

Gerzonic : another one, from the inventor of the ambisonic coding.
( - VST - payants et freeware)

 "Up Mixing"

Surroundizer (AcousModules) : can extend a stereo input to 5.1 et le 7.1, according to three modes that can be combined : spectral bands, pitch and amplitude movement follower, LCRS simulation. ( - VST - 20 €).

2-2-Six (Starplugs) : automatic extension from stereo to 5.1, rather effective even if we cannot control some aspects. ( - VST - 50 €)

UM 226 (Waves) : ( - native 300 $ / TDM 600 $ !)

UpMix 5 (Arkamys) only for Pyramix 5.
( - VS3 - ?? €)

UpMix (Cycling 74) : extention from stereo to 5.1 by filtering and room simulations. ( - VST/RTAS - 430 €)

V.I.Converter (Steve Thomson) : very simple to use.
( - VST - freeware).

 "JS Reaper"

plugins disponibles à l'installation de Reaper :
- Looser

 JS-Multifreaq audio spectrum analyzer :
